College Success Factors
There are three college success factors to take into account:
1. Learning how to study and learn skills — You should learn how to study effectively. Most colleges provide one or college success courses that can teach you such skills. These courses should be taught to students, but only few high schools offer them. A great college success course must teach you how to learn and study, reading comprehension strategies, the best learning types and styles of intelligences, how to set and attain your goals, discovery of your strengths and talents, time management, career exploration, note taking, writing skills, problem solving, and others.
2. Work Ethic — Great work and study habits will result in college success and in the work force. Great study skills will be effective only when you apply them. But they will be useless to you if do not employ them.
3. Motivation — Without educational motivation you will not use good work habits, study skills, and your potential and intelligence. There are a couple types of motivation, the stick (pain) and the carrot (pleasure). When you utilize these together you will obtain a powerful motivational mixture. Keep your long-range targets for accomplishing a college education. Remind yourself of the consequences or the stick (pain) if you do not attain your goal of degree completing in secondary education. Reminding yourself of the consequences and benefits will assist you in staying persistent and motivated. You should break the long-range targets into small steps. Each step accomplished gives you positive feedback and increase your motivation to attain your long-range goals.
